CHIANG MAI, THAILAND - Jintara Rehab Thailand, a residential addiction treatment centre in Chiang Mai's Hang Dong District, treats adults for drug and alcohol addiction through a small-group program that combines on-site medical detox, evidence-based therapy, and trauma treatment. The centre operates with a maximum of 10 clients in residence at any time, supported by a clinical team of 32 staff.
The model is built around clinical depth rather than scale. Founder Darren Lockie, who has spent more than 15 years building addiction treatment centres in Thailand, leads admissions personally and refers clients elsewhere when Jintara is not the right fit.
"We tell people what we specialise in, we tell them what we don't do, and we refer them to rehabs that might be a better fit for them," Lockie said. "We do medical detox on site, we have a full medical check-up on day two at our expense, and a lot of rehabs don't do that."
The Day 2 medical workup includes blood work, liver function, kidney function, chest X-ray, and electrocardiogram. The protocol is delivered at the centre rather than referred out, supported by 24-hour awake nursing during withdrawal and stabilisation. The centre's clinical leadership describes the model as proactive medical care rather than the standard residential pattern of monitoring symptoms and prescribing reactively.
The therapy program is led by master's-level therapists with at least ten years of clinical experience. The addiction treatment Chiang Mai centre uses cognitive behavioural therapy, schema therapy, and SMART Recovery rather than a 12-step framework. Trauma processing is delivered through EMDR therapy by Denise OLeary, MA, the only EMDRIA-certified clinician currently practising in Thailand. EMDR is offered to clients on programs of eight weeks or longer, after medical stabilisation, and is paired with the centre's wider clinical work on dual diagnosis.
The small-group structure carries through to the daily program. Clients receive private rooms, individual counselling, group therapy, fitness, mindfulness, and weekly excursions designed to practice life skills outside the treatment setting. The 32-staff team includes nursing, therapy, fitness, holistic practitioners, and admissions, working at a staff-to-client ratio of more than three to one.
Jintara Rehab Thailand is licensed by the Thai Ministry of Public Health and treats adult clients from Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, New Zealand, and across Southeast Asia. The program is offered at four-week, eight-week, and twelve-week durations. Programs longer than four weeks are billed in four-week instalments, a policy Lockie attributes to respecting clients' financial commitments. The addiction treatment Chiang Mai centre continues to focus on small-format care rather than expansion of bed count.
